Wales’ Jackson Page has continued his run at Snookers World Open in China and will now face world number two Judd Trump in the semi-finals.

Page, from Ebbw Vale, has already beaten multiple World Champions John Higgins and Mark Selby at the World Open and will now be looking to beat the 2019 World Champion Trump for a place in Sunday’s final.

After beating Higgins 5-3 in a tight contest in the first round, Page defeated China’s Wu Yize in the next by the same score, making a break of 136 in the first frame.

A high-scoring match against Leicester’s Selby followed, with Page making three centuries of 130, 120 and 100 on his way to a 5-2 win.

Englishman Elliot Slessor faced Page in the quarter-finals on Friday, a first ranking quart-final for the Welshman, but Page won comfortably by five frames to two with a 140 break in the second frame.

Page suffered an early loss in the Welsh Open against Neil Robertson, while he was also out early in the German Masters in December after a 5-3 loss to Robbie Williams.

Ranked 52^nd in the world, Page now has a golden opportunity to reach his first ranking tournament final.

The 22-year-old is a former Welsh Amateur Champion from 2018 and won both the World and European U18 Championships, before winning the European U21 Championship in 2019.

After his win in the quarter finals Friday, Page admits he has found it difficult to keep consistent.

“The biggest thing that young players struggle with, I have done for years, is keeping that momentum going,” said Page.

“When I was younger I could do it for one or two games but keeping it going was a nightmare.

“It takes a few years to understand that and get over it, I like to think I can do it more regularly now, so hopefully I will tomorrow.”

Page has yet to beat Trump in their three professional matches but came close in their last meeting at the 2022 English Open losing 4-3.

Trump himself came through a 5-2 win in China on Friday, over fellow Englishman Kyren Wilson and is fully aware of the threat Page poses.

“I think Page has played brilliantly well,” said Trump after his quarter final win.

“From what I’ve seen, he and Ding Junhui have been the players of the tournament with the way they’ve scored and gone about their business, Page seems to be flying around the table.

“When you’re young and playing well there’s no better feeling, I’m the grumpy old man who’s out there to stop him!”
