Departing Cardiff City midfielder Ryan Wintle has said that he is “gutted” to be leaving the club, due to circumstances “completely out of my control.”

Wintle joined the club from Crewe Alexandra in 2021, going on to make 163 appearances for the Bluebirds, scoring six times.

The 28-year-old midfielder was a key part of Cardiff’s promotion to the Championship last campaign, playing 46 games and winning the club’s player of the season and players’ player of the season.

Cardiff confirmed Wintle’s departure, saying he would “depart the club at the end of his current agreement this summer.”

“He leaves Cardiff City Stadium with our very best wishes for the future,” said the Championship club.

“I’m gutted to be writing this post, but unfortunately the time has come for me to say goodbye to Cardiff City, a decision that was completely out of my control,” Wintle added.

“I’ve loved my five years at the club and have been lucky enough to meet and work with some truly terrific people along the way.

“I just want to say a massive thank you to my teammates, coaches, staff, and especially the fans for all the support you’ve shown me throughout my time here. It’s been an absolute pleasure to represent this club.

“This city will always hold a massive place in my heart, especially having started my family here.”
