Wilson and Cabango out of Wales squad for summer friendlies

Experienced duo Harry Wilson and Ben Cabango have pulled out of the Wales squad for their summer friendlies against Ghana and Romania.

Wilson has been the key attacking piece of Craig Bellamy’s puzzle since the former Burnley coach’s appointment in 2024, scoring 12 of his 17 career international goals in that time.

Wilson has had a career year at Fulham, scoring 10 times and assisting another seven in the Premier League, but is out of contract at the end of the season.

He has been linked to a number of top division sides, including Everton, Aston Villa and Leeds United – the latter is where fellow Wales regulars Ethan Ampadu, Karl Darlow, and Joe Rodon ply their trade.

Swansea defender Cabango has been ever present at club level this season, featuring in 47 games for the Welsh club, but has found gametime more difficult to come by at international level.

The 25-year-old was an unused substitution for Wales’ World Cup play-off semi-final defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina in March.

Uncapped duo Cameron Congreve and Ollie Bostock have been called up as replacements.

Swansea winger Congreve, 22, spent the season on loan at Dundee while 19-year-old attacking midfielder Bostock of West Bromwich Albion has two Wales U21 caps.

Wales host Ghana, one of England’s World Cup group opponents, at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday, 2 June, before facing Romania in Bucharest the following Saturday.

Bellamy has also called-up uncapped teenager Jayden Lienou for this week’s fixtures.

The 18-year-old Leeds left back has previously appeared for Wales U19s and joined the Yorkshire club from Manchester City’s academy last summer.

Lienou has yet to make a first-team appearance for Leeds, but was an unused substitute in two Premier League matches earlier this month.
