Weightlifter Charlotte Whalley has been added to Team Wales ahead of the Commonwealth Games, following a reallocation of a qualification slot.

The slot has been allocated to Team Wales, binding to Weightlifting and specifically to Whalley, and to the specific bodyweight category, with the 22-year-old securing her place in the women’s 63kg competition.

Whalley becomes the 115th athlete selected to Team Wales for Glasgow 2026, joining the 114 athletes previously announced on Friday June 19th.

The reallocation process ensures that any unused qualification places are awarded to the next highest-ranked eligible athletes who have achieved the required international performance standards.

“We are delighted to welcome Charlotte Whalley to Team Wales for Glasgow 2026. Her qualification is thoroughly deserved and is a testament to her consistency, commitment and performances throughout the qualification period.

“Reaching 115 athletes is a significant milestone for Team Wales and demonstrates the strength and depth of talent we have across Welsh sport. We look forward to supporting Charlotte as she makes her debut on the World stage.”

“Throughout the qualification period, Charlotte represented Wales with distinction and delivered strong performances at every international opportunity.

“The qualification process has been incredibly competitive and, to be in a position to benefit from the final reallocation process, you first have to earn that opportunity.

“Charlotte certainly did that, achieving the required international standard through her performances, consistency and dedication throughout the qualification period.

“Everyone at Weightlifting Wales is incredibly proud of Charlotte, and we look forward to seeing her represent Wales on the Commonwealth stage.”
