Wales have officially launched their new kits for the upcoming season, with the unveiling taking place at the National Eisteddfod.

Once again crafted by kit suppliers Macron, the home jersey stays true to tradition in red, with the design drawing inspiration from the Welsh Dragon. A repeated dragon motif runs across the shoulders and sleeves of the all-red shirt.

There’s a change below the waist too, with Steve Tandy’s men switching back to white shorts and red socks after a season spent in red shorts and white socks.

The women’s team, meanwhile, will stick with red shorts and white socks.

The away kit follows a familiar formula once more, with a white jersey featuring green detailing. This time, the design takes its cue from Welsh slate, with a textured slate graphic running across both the jersey and shorts.

The Welsh Rugby Union say that “both kits have been designed around a single idea, creating shirts that carry Wales wherever they are worn, whether on the pitch, in the stands at Principality Stadium or by supporters across the world.”

The launch itself also signalled a shift in approach from the governing body, with players given the freedom to pair the new jerseys with their own casual clothing, mirroring the way supporters are likely to style the shirts on matchdays.

“These new kits represent far more than what our teams will wear on the field – they’re a celebration of who we are as a nation and what Welsh rugby stands for,” said WRU chief commercial officer, Tomos Grace.

“From the dragon on our Home jersey to the slate-inspired design of the alternate kit, every detail has been created to reflect the pride, heritage and culture that make Wales unique.

“We’re placing Welsh identity at the heart of everything we do, and these kits are an important expression of that direction. They embody the values of our brand, celebrate our history and provide a modern look that will represent Welsh rugby with pride.

“We’re incredibly excited to launch this new range and look forward to seeing our players wear these jerseys on the international stage, while supporters across Wales and around the world make them their own.

“Whether you’re pulling on the shirt to represent your country or cheering from the stands, we hope everyone who wears these kits feels a strong connection to Wales and to the game we all love.”

Fans keen to get their hands on either jersey can do so from Wednesday, 6 August, with both available from the Welsh Rugby Store in Cardiff, online at store.wru.co.uk, and via selected retailers.
