Welsh Athletics is delighted to announce that Wales will host the European Athletics U23 Championships Trials at the Welsh Senior, U17 & Para Outdoor Track & Field Championships next June.

The trials will take place on the 28-29 June 2025 at the Cardiff International Sports Campus in Leckwith, ahead of the 2025 European Athletics U23 Championships in Bergen, Norway from 17-20 July.

Jeremiah Azu was co-captain at the 2023 European U23 Championships in Finland last year and took gold in the men’s 100m to retain his title he won two years prior. Next year, Wales are hoping to see more success with the next set of U23 athletes progressing through the ranks.

“The incorporation of the European U23 trials into the Welsh Senior Championships is very exciting for Wales,” said Chris Type, Head of Performance at Welsh Athletics.

“The inclusion of the trial will increase the quality of fields across the board ensuring a high quality event for all entrants.”

Welsh Athletics is the national governing body for Athletics in Wales, we look after the sport in all its disciplines from the grassroots up to Commonwealth Games teams.

They work with our partners and stakeholders across Wales to support our growing network of clubs and their members by providing an affiliation and support structure that aims to ensure there are safe, fun and accessible opportunities for all to participate.

“These trials play a vital role in the experience of pathway athletes, providing a crucial stepping stone on their international journey.
