Wales to face Ghana for first time in summer friendly

Craig Bellamy’s Wales side will face Ghana for the first time in history with a summer friendly scheduled for June 2nd.

The match is scheduled to be held at the Cardiff City Stadium, and will also be the first time an African nation has played in Wales.

The only other time Wales have faced an African nation was against Tunisia in June 1998 in Tunis. Current head coach Bellamy played for Cymru that day.

Ghana, who did not qualify for the most recent edition of the African Cup of Nations, will be at the FIFA World Cup this summer, held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

They have been drawn in a group alongside England, Panama, and Croatia.

Regardless of whether Wales qualify for the tournament in matches this March, they will play two matches in the June international window, with the FAW’s statement saying that another fixture will be announced in due course.

Before the summer, Bellamy has two massive games ahead of his squad. The first, a play-off semi-final with Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Cardiff City Stadium on March 26th.

Win that, and Wales face either Italy or Northern Ireland at the same venue five days later.
