Wales international Matt Smith has been made available for transfer by Newport County, as the club release seven players at the end of the season.

Smith has played 19 times for Wales since his debut in 2018, appearing most recently in 2022.

The 22-year-old midfielder signed for Newport from St Johnstone in the Scottish Championship last summer, making 22 appearances for the Exiles this campaign.

Smith is joined on the transfer list by Ged Garner, who scored two goals in 29 appearances during the 2025/26 season, while fellow striker Courtney Baker-Richardson is one of seven players departing Rodney Parade following the conclusion of their contracts.

Liam Shephard, Anthony Driscoll-Glennon and Jaden Warner, plus youngsters Nelson Sanca, Riley Lonergan and Jac Norris are the other departures.

Captain Matt Baker, who took the armband following James Clarke’s retirement in January, has been offered a new contract, as has Bobby Kamwa, whose dramatic goals towards the end of the season helped secure the club’s EFL status.

Michael Spellman, Ciaran Brennan, Cameron Evans and Keenan Patten also remain in discussions over new deals.

Newport have also triggered the extension options within the contracts of Joe Thomas, winner of the club’s Goal of the Season award for his long-range strike against Harrogate Town, and Tom Davies, who scored the first against Barrow on the final day of the season.

Moses Alexander-Walker has also had his 1-year extension option exercised following his loan with Bath City.

Ryan Delaney, Sven Sprangler, Harrison Biggins, Ben Lloyd, Tanatswa Nyakuhwa and Nathaniel Opoku all depart following the expiration of their loan deals.
