Cardiff have announced that Aled Davies and Ellis Bevan have signed extensions at the club following positive seasons.

The capital region have now tied down all three of their senior scrum halves in recent weeks, with Johan Mulder also signing a ‘long-term’ deal.

Davies, who missed the final weeks of the season with a hamstring injury, has put pen to paper on an extension to remain with Cardiff.

The scrum-half arrived at the Arms Park from Saracens in 2024, and has gone on to make 30 appearances for the club.

“I’m really happy to be staying at Cardiff,” Davies said.

“I have absolutely loved the last two seasons and how we have grown as a group.

“Playing at the Arms Park is truly special and we have managed to make it a fortress this season with 10 wins from 1. That is something we can continue to build on.

“With so many of the group staying it is exciting to see what we can achieve next season. It’s going to be a great challenge being back in the Champions Cup and I’m looking forward to some brilliant European occasions at the Arms Park.”

Davies came through the Scarlets academy system and spent eight seasons in west Wales before joining the Ospreys, winning 20 Wales caps in that time.

He signed for Saracens in 2020 and helped them to the English Premiership in 2023.

“We are really pleased that Aled has agreed to stay at the Arms Park,” head coach van Zyl said.

“He will be pivotal in helping us achieve our goals moving forward.

“He is such a brilliant professional, who brings so much to our environment, setting and driving standards.

“Aled is an all-round scrum-half, who can play fast or really control games with his accurate kicking. That kind of ability was really important as we edged to some narrow wins in the early part of the season.

“He obviously has an abundance of experience, which is hugely beneficial not just in terms of performance on the weekend, but each and every day in our environment, while he is also hugely competitive.”

Bevan, who made his first team debut during the 2020-21 season after signing from Cardiff Met, has now made 53 first team appearances for Cardiff.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have re-signed with the club. From the moment discussions began, it was clear that my ambitions and those of the club are perfectly aligned,” Bevan said for his signing.

“I know the best rugby of my career is still to come, and there’s no place I’d rather continue that journey.

“The last 18 months have presented challenges both on and off the field, but they’ve also been some of the most valuable in terms of my growth as a player and a person.

“I’m proud of how I’ve come through that period, and the lessons I’ve learned have only increased my hunger to improve and contribute even more to the team.

“My connection with the club is stronger than it has ever been. There’s a special togetherness within this squad that makes coming in every day a privilege, and the culture being built here is something I’m incredibly proud to be a part of.

“Just as importantly, the support I’ve received from the fans has never gone unnoticed. The way they’ve welcomed me and made me feel part of this club means a huge amount, and I’m truly grateful for that support.

“The vision, ambition, and standards being driven by Corniel and the coaching staff made this decision an easy one. There’s a real belief throughout the organisation about what can be achieved, and I’m excited to continue playing my part in that journey.

“I’d like to thank everyone involved with the club for the trust they’ve shown in me. I’m looking forward to the years ahead, continuing to grow, and doing everything I can to help bring success to this club and its supporters.”

Bevan made his international debut against South Africa in 2024 and has seven Wales caps to his name.

“We are very pleased to retain the services of Ellis,” van Zyl added.

“He is a brilliant young player with plenty of potential and an enormous appetite to improve. He is diligent in his personal development and has a first in, last out mindset to grow his game.

“On the pitch he has a huge work-rate, natural size and athleticism and a high skill-set. He has had a great season and I am excited to see how he continues to adapt and develop on his journey.

“With Aled and Johan also signing new contracts we have three great scrum-halves and that competition will only be good for the team.”
