Wales international tighthead Keiron Assiratti has been ruled out of Wales’ summer internationals with a calf injury.

Assiratti suffered the injury in Cardiff’s United Rugby Championship play-off quarter-final defeat to the Stormers, and has been assessed by the Wales medical staff following the end of the club season.

Wales have confirmed that they will not be calling up a replacement, with Dillon Lewis, Sam Wainwright, and Ben Warren all already with the group.

This latest injury is another set back in the tighthead position for Steve Tandy, with Six Nations regulars Tomas Francis and Archie Griffin both not included in the extended 48-man group for the summer.

Griffin elected to have surgery this summer, while Francis, who returned for Wales after two years away during the Six Nations, is rested ahead of a transfer to Sale Sharks.

Assiratti, 28, is the second player to pull out of the squad after Bath back Louie Hennessey was ruled out because of a shoulder injury.

Wales face four matches with the uncapped double-header against Barbarians on 27 June at the Allianz Stadium in Twickenham, followed by three games in the new Nations Championship against Fiji, Argentina and South Africa in July.
