The best of Welsh tennis on display at the Tennis Wales Awards


The Welsh tennis community gathered to honour the individuals and organisations that make tennis in Wales so special.

The Tennis Wales Awards celebrated the passion, dedication and success of those in the Welsh Tennis community. This year’s event was held at Cardiff’s Mercure Holland House Hotel.

Sponsored by Veygo, the event recognised outstanding contributions across all levels of the sport, from grassroots volunteers to elite performance players.

Hosted by Welsh broadcaster Catrin Heledd, the ceremony began with a stirring performance from the Cardiff Male Choir, setting the tone for a night of heartfelt recognition and celebration.

2024 Award Winners: Celebrating Excellence Across Wales

Club of the Year (sponsored by Floodlighting and Electrical Services)

Llandybie Tennis Club – Celebrated for fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for players of all ages and abilities.

Coach of the Year (sponsored by Dragon Signs)

Will Croft – A passionate coach from Llantrisant Tennis Club, Cardiff Wheelchair Tennis Club, and Tennis Squad, recognised for his dedication to developing players at every stage.

Performance Coach on the Year

Luke Simeone, Swansea Tennis Centre – Honoured for his commitment to player growth and leadership on and off the court, leading to success at national and international levels.

Player of the Year

James StoryCelebrated for a successful comeback from injury, winning his first professional title and reaching a career-high ATP ranking of 782 (He is now 585)

Junior Player of the Year

Elizabeth Evans – For a remarkable year on the ITF circuit and a key role in Wales’ Four Nations Under-18s victory.

Tennis Opebed Up Award (Sponsored by Watkins and Gunn)

Women Connect FirstRecognised for expanding tennis access to underrepresented groups from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

Competition of the Year

Newport Tennis Centre Visually Impaired Tennis Tournament – Welcoming record entries in the singles and doubles events for all categories across the tournament.

Park of the Year

Corwen Community Tennis Courts – Awarded for its remarkable recovery and court refurbishment after significant flood damage.

Volunteer of the Year

Ed Wilkins, Bridgend Tennis & Squash Club – Single handedly lead the process of transforming Bridgend into a thriving and sustainable community facility.

Young Person of the Year (sponsored by Veygo)

Carys Hughes, Wrexham Tennis & Padel Centre – Representing her club and school at all ages and completing over 150 voluntary hours to help others to learn and play.

Team of the Year & President’s Award

Wales Junior Wheelchair SquadTook home four medals at the School Games National Finals in Loughborough, including more golds than any other team.

Club Team of the Year

Bridgend Tennis Club Ladies 1st Team – Secured promotion to the Premier Division for the first time in over a decade, following on from three years of consecutive summer promotions.

Official of the Year

Tcherina Vaughan-Griffiths – Her passion and dedication to the community proved invaluable providing more competitive opportunities right across North Wales.

School of the Year

Abertillery Learning CommunitySupported pupils with additional learning needs through regular coaching, promoting physical coordination, social development, and resilience.

University of the Year

Cardiff Metropolitan UniversityA two-time winner, recognised for its wide-reaching programme supporting students and local communities, and for leading the 14+ Welsh and University National Performance Programme.

Lifetime Achievement

David Baker, Merthyr Tennis Club – Honoured for over 40 years of service, making tennis accessible to the people of Merthyr and ensuring the long-term success of the club.

The ceremony was attendees by esteemed guests, including headline sponsor Veygo, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, and Tennis Wales President Baroness Amanda Sater, underscoring the importance of sport in building strong, connected communities.
