Team Wales has today announced the athletes selected to represent the nation at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, taking place from 23 July to 2 August.

A total of 114 athletes will compete across 10 sports, proudly representing Wales at the 23rd Commonwealth Games.

The sports include swimming and para-swimming, athletics and para-athletics, track cycling and para-track cycling, gymnastics, bowls and para bowls, judo, boxing, weightlifting, and netball.

Of the 114 athletes, 22 are para-athletes, with the overall team comprising 66 female and 48 male competitors.

There are three reigning Olympic gold medallists in the team – cyclist Emma Finucane and swimmers Matt Richards and Kieran Bird – as well as multiple Paralympic champion Aled Sion Davies.

World indoor champion Jeremiah Azu is part of the athletics team, while Adele Nicoll is included in the shot put just four months after competing in the bobsleigh at the Winter Olympics.

“This group represents the very best of Welsh sport – dedicated, ambitious and proud to wear the red jersey,” Team Wales’ chef de mission Gethin Jones said.

“We are building on the legacy of 2014 with real belief, and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this team.

“I can’t wait to see what they achieve in Glasgow.”

Former Wales and British and Irish Lions fly-half Gareth Davies was appointed Chair of Team Wales in April 2023.

“Announcing the team is always a proud moment, not just for the athletes, but for everyone involved in making this journey possible,” he added.

“Over the past few years, an enormous amount of work has gone into the planning and delivery behind the scenes, and this team is a reflection of that collective effort across Welsh sport.

“I am very much looking forward to attending the Games and supporting the team as they represent Wales with pride on the world stage.”

Netball have also qualified for the Games, with the squad yet to be announced. Wales are in Pool B with New Zealand, Jamaica, Uganda, Scotland and Trinidad & Tobago.

Glasgow 2026 will also be marking an historical moment for Team Wales, confirming their male and female 3×3 wheelchair basketball teams have qualified for the Commonwealth Games for the first time in history.
