Swansea City have announced the signing of Ghanian international winger Joseph Opoku from Belgian side Zulte Waregem.

Opoku has signed a four-year contract with the Welsh side, with Swansea holding the option to extend his stay by another year.

The 20-year-old winger joined Belgian Pro League side Zulte Waregem in 2024, helping them secure promotion to the top flight in his first campaign.

The winger continued his good form last season, scoring 10 goals and making six assists in the Pro League, and was named the Pro League Player of the Month for April 2026.

“He is a young player, who has been exposed to a lot of senior football in Belgium,” said Swans head coach Vitor Matos.

“He will be able to adapt to the physicality, the intensity and the amount of games in the Championship as we know he is a fast and sharp player.

“Opoku has joined us here in Austria (on their pre-season tour), and he has had his first training session and we’re excited to have him here.”

Opoku’s good form in Belgium saw him called up to the senior Ghanian squad in May, but missed out on selection for the World Cup, having been named in a preliminary squad.

“Really excited with Joseph joining us and looking forward to seeing his attacking potential flourish in Vitor’s team,” Swansea’s sporting director Ben Stevens added.

“Two full seasons with Zulte Waregem in Belgian’s top division plus being involved with Ghana national teams highlight the ability of this young talent.”

Opoku is Matos’ fifth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Elijah Just, Stephen Welsh, Moussa Yeo and Leo Walta.
