Swansea lose at the death despite Vigouroux heroics

Despite an excellent performance from goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux, Swansea were defeated in added time by Millwall, losing 2-1 at the Den.
The mini-revival over Christmas ended for Swansea in dramatic fashion as Caleb Taylor’s late winner broke more than a few West Walian hearts.
None more so than Swans goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux, whose performance deserved more than the zero points that he and his team left South London with.
The Chilean net minder made eight saves across the match, keeping Swansea in the contest, who levelled early in the second half when captain Ben Cabango prodded home from close range after Mihailo Ivanovic’s turn and finish gave Millwall the halftime lead.
The Welsh side seemed set to celebrate a hard-earned point until centre-back Taylor climbed above Marko Stamenic at the far post to head home from Alfie Doughty’s cross.
“I think not only [against Millwall], he has been outstanding,” said Swansea boss Matos.
“Defending, also attacking with the ball. [Vigouroux’s performance at Millwall] was massive because it kept us in the game – we could compete.
“He made some really unbelievable saves and we were not fortunate enough to give him at least one point. I think he deserved it.”
Vigouroux’s defiant display at Millwall continued his fine form, with the Chile international barely putting a foot wrong during a season and a half as Swansea’s number one.
“He is an experienced goalkeeper, a top character, top professional,” Matos added.
“I like him a lot and the boys like him a lot. We are really happy to have him.”
