Swansea City have strengthened their defensive options with the loan capture of Tiago Parente from Benfica, the club have announced.

The 20-year-old left-back will join up with the Swans for the entirety of the 2026-27 season, with an option to buy built into the deal.

“We are pleased to bring in Tiago to provide us with competition and another option in the left-back position,” Swansea head coach Vitor Matos said.

“He is a talented young player who is excited by the chance to test himself in a different environment, we are happy to have him here and look forward to bringing him into our squad.”

Matos had given the first hint of the move after Saturday’s 1-0 pre-season victory over Leganes at the Swansea.com Stadium, confirming a left-back signing was close.

The Portuguese boss made clear the new arrival is intended as cover for Josh Tymon, who remains first choice in that role.

Parente was actually in the stands to see his new side beat the Spanish visitors at the weekend, just weeks after making his senior Benfica debut back in May 2025.

He’s now available for selection when Swansea host Birmingham City in the Carabao Cup first round on Saturday.

“We are extremely happy that Tiago has agreed to join us, and he arrives from a club in Benfica who historically have produced very talented young players,” Swansea City sporting director Ben Stevens, added.

“He had a great season last year playing in the Portuguese second division, the Premier League International Cup and the Uefa Youth League.

“He also featured internationally for Portugal under-20s, and we are hopeful he can continue his development with us.”
