Swansea City have rejected an opening offer from newly-promoted Hull City for prolific forward Zan Vipotnik, with the Swans holding firm on their valuation of the Slovenian striker.

Vipotnik was the standout performer in a mixed Swansea campaign last season, finishing as the Championship’s top scorer with 23 league goals as Vitor Matos’s side settled for a mid-table finish in 11th.

Even with that tally, Swansea finished nine points and several places behind Hull, who secured a return to the Premier League via the play-offs after finishing sixth.

Hull’s move for the 24-year-old fell well short of what Swansea want for their star man, and the Tigers will need to significantly improve their offer if they want to test the club’s resolve further.

Vipotnik joined Swansea from Bordeaux in the summer of 2024 but took time to find his feet in English football, managing just seven goals in his debut Championship season.

He kicked on dramatically last term, and his form was rewarded in March when he signed a new contract at the Swansea.com Stadium running until 2030, a deal that hands the Welsh club serious leverage in any transfer negotiations.

The Vipotnik interest comes at a time when Swansea’s attacking options are already looking healthy.

The club completed the signing of Scotland international Ross Stewart last week following his exit from Southampton, and already have Republic of Ireland striker Adam Idah on their books.

Head coach Matos has moved to play down any suggestion that Stewart’s arrival signals an exit for Vipotnik, insisting last week that he’s confident of keeping all three forwards content and firing this season.

For Hull, missing out on Vipotnik, for now, at least, won’t halt an otherwise busy summer of recruitment as they prepare for their first season in the Premier League since 2016-17.

The Tigers have already made a club-record move for goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis from Olympiacos, brought in fellow keeper Jack Butland from Rangers, and added midfield reinforcements in Jens Hjerto-Dahl (Tromso) and Elliot Stroud (Mjallby).

Whether they return for Vipotnik with an improved offer before the transfer window closes remains to be seen.
