Hero of Newport County’s survival from relegation in League Two last season, Bobby Kamwa, has left the club.

Kamwa scored three goals in the last two games of the season, including an extraordinary late winner against Oldham Athletic and final day stunner against Barrow Town, after a difficult season.

But the Exiles say Kamwa, whose Rodney Parade deal expires this month, has decided to leave to pursue opportunities elsewhere “after turning down an improved contract offer”.

“The forward’s contributions included a number of decisive performances, with his goals providing real impact at important times in the season,” Newport added in a statement on their website.

“Newport County now continues planning for the upcoming campaign as recruitment work progresses ahead of the new season.”

The 26-year-old scored 14 goals in 95 games since joining from Burton Albion in 2024.

Born on 18 March 2000 in Douala, Cameroon, Kamwa moved to England at a young age and progressed through the Leeds United Academy, signing his first professional contract in 2020.

He gained senior experience on loan at Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Championship and later played for Burton Albion, making over 40 appearances in all competitions.

Kamwa made his Newport debut on 10 August 2024 in a 3–2 League Two defeat to Cheltenham Town. He scored his first goal for the club in a 3–1 win over Doncaster Rovers on 17 August 2024.

Kamwa continued his fine form throughout the season, including scoring his first career hat-trick in a 6–3 victory against Milton Keynes Dons on 21 December 2024.

His goals and performances were a key factor in the Exiles’ attacking output, and he finished the 2024–25 campaign as the club’s top goalscorer. He was also awarded Newport County’s Goal of the Season at the End of Season Awards.
