Speculation about Trott future at Cardiff a ‘waste of time’ says Barry-Murphy

Cardiff City manager Brian Barry-Murphy has said that the speculation over goalkeeper Nathan Trott’s future at the club is a “waste of time.”
Trott has been nearly ever-present for Cardiff in their successful pursuit of promotion from League One, making 41 appearances for the club this season.
The 27-year-old joined the Bluebirds in the summer on loan from Copenhagen, and while Cardiff do have an option of a permanent deal, there will be competition for his signature.
Barry-Murphy, though, says his focus remains on his side’s final fixtures, despite having already secured a return to second-tier football at the first attempt.
Trott is not the only Cardiff player whose future is uncertain, with first choice fullbacks Perry Ng and Joel Bagan, as well as midfielder Ryan Wintle all potentially leaving upon the expiry on their contracts,
“I think he’s done great over the course of the season and we’re very grateful to have him,” Barry-Murphy said.
“Like with the other players, there’s so many different moving parts to these things speculation is a waste of time.
“If something happens, then it happens and if not, it’s all good.”
Cardiff have not confirmed anything on the aforementioned quartet, despite a number of other squad members signing new deals this season.
Asked whether a decision will be made before Saturday’s final home game, the manager said: “All those players have had incredible seasons and they’ll be under consideration for Saturday.
“It’s been a really busy period and the focus has always been on these remaining games. Once they’re finished then all those different situations contractually between players and clubs would be dealt with.”
With Saturday’s match against Northampton set to be a promotion celebration, Barry-Murphy has the chance to use these last two games as a head start on plans for life back in the Championship.
“I think our idea is always to move the club forward really quickly, try and improve the squad, try and improve all aspects of the club and if that remains the theme of what we’re trying to do, then it means we’ll be fine,” he added.
“There’s a great sense of pride in what we’ve done.
“It’s difficult to predict what level of performance we could reach based on the euphoria that we felt on Saturday, so I’m very pleased with the players that we managed to create a chance in the second half and play well enough to win.”
