Two Wales bowls teams will battle for a Commonwealth Games bronze medal on Tuesday morning following heartbreaking semi-final defeats.

The first action of the day came at the Bowls, where the Women’s Pairs played out a tense affair with New Zealand.

The fixture went down to a tie-break, and after a long few minutes to measure the winning ball, victory fell New Zealand’s way.

Amy Williams and Luren Gowen, however, had done more than enough to make it through to the semi-finals courtesy of a blistering four-match winning run before defeat today.

And that semi-final came later in the day, as they faced England for a place in the gold-medal match. The drama was there in abundance as it came down to a tie-break; a rollercoaster of emotions, the tie-break eventually going England’s way on the final ball.

That places Williams and Gowen in the bronze medal match against Northern Ireland on Tuesday.

With a couple of disappointing results so far in the tournament, Ross Owen showed composure against his Day 4 opponent, Rajnesh Prasad from Fiji.

Although he won’t progress past the Section C group, Owen can hold his head up high after concluding his Men’s Singles campaign with a dominant 2-0 display.

Following the conclusion of their group, the Para Mixed Pairs B2-B3 had an early-evening semi-final to look forward to.

Also taking on the English, Julie Thomas and Steffan James competed valiantly but eventually fell to a 2-0 defeat, and will play New Zealand in the bronze medal match on Tuesday morning.
