Cardiff Devils have announced the re-signing of British forward Sam Duggan for the upcoming 2026-27 season, his eighth with the club.

Last year, Duggan played 61 games in all competitions, scoring two goals and laying on three assists, featuring in a prominent role on the penalty killing unit.

The 27-year-old originally joined the Devils in November of the 2018-19 season when he was only 20, and has been a mainstay with the club ever since.

In his seven seasons with the Devils, he has played over 460 games in all competitions and has lifted the Playoff Championship trophy three times (2019, 2022, 2026).

He has also played over 40 games for the Men’s National Team, winning gold with them in 2017 and 2025.

Duggan played his youth hockey in Bracknell but moved to Sweden when he was 16 to play for Orebro in the U18 Elite League. He spent four seasons with Orebro, eventually captaining his side for two seasons. He also captained Team GB at the Under 18 and Under 20 level.

“Duggy returning gives us that British experience we need,” head coach Paul Thompson said.

“He is a strong penalty killer and shut down guy with a great attitude and great leadership qualities.

“His presence on this team is crucial, I’m very pleased he is back with us for another year.”
