Roll with the T-Roc
The second generation of the famed T-Roc arrives at Sinclair Volkswagen’s Welsh showrooms this winter and seems sure to impress with its powerful design, innovative drive systems and high-quality specification whilst building on the success of the original version.
Volkswagen was the UK’s best-selling new-car brand for the fourth year running in 2025, according to the annual stats revealed by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), and there’s every chance of the manufacturer achieving a famous five with its SUV stable set to be strengthened in the final quarter.
Following in the tyre tracks of the all-new Tayron, which went on sale in the UK at the start of this year sitting between the mid-sized Tiguan, Volkswagen’s best-selling model worldwide, and the Touareg, the brand’s flagship large SUV, comes news of another model which might be more compact but is just as comfortable and compelling.
Second only to the Tiguan in terms of Volkswagen SUV popularity, the T-Roc has clocked up more than two million sales worldwide since its launch in 2017.
Following a model update three years ago, its appeal has remained just as strong with almost 300,000 new car buyers opting for the compact all-rounder in Europe alone last year.
It’s fair to say that the new T-Roc will be instantly eye-catching and the model’s major leap forward in terms of development is noticeable at first glance. Whilst the characteristic T-Roc DNA with the coupé-like rear end is still retained, the newcomer makes the most of an extra 12 cm in overall length with its dynamic presence enhanced by a new lighting design.
New LED headlights at the front are standard with IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights available as an option and connected to the white illuminated Volkswagen logo by a narrow light strip.
Depending on the equipment specified, the rear of the new T-Roc also features a continuous LED crossbar with a red illuminated Volkswagen logo to help it stand out even more from the automotive crowd.
It may be classified as compact, but the T-Roc’s extra length means it feels roomier than ever with its cargo-carrying capability increased by 30 litres to 475 litres when loaded up to the height of the rear seat backrests – more than enough for the shopping, luggage or golf clubs.
An electrically adjustable 14-way ergoActive seat with massage function will be available in the Style version for the first time in the T-Roc to maximise comfort too.
Indeed, throughout the interior of the new T-Roc, there are significant improvements to savour from its premium quality, soft surfaces in addition to a raft of innovative technologies adopted from its larger Tiguan and Tayron siblings.
These include the latest evolutionary stage of the driving experience control, which can be used to select driving profiles and control the volume, amongst other things. Another new feature is the optional windscreen head-up display that projects important information such as speed or navigation pictograms directly on to the windscreen in front of the driver.
Owners will be delighted with the technology at their disposal, with the T-Roc being the third Volkswagen model to benefit from the hardware and software developments of the MQ8 evo modular transverse matrix.
This includes a new version of Travel Assist which not only supports automatic lane changes but can also react with even more foresight to speed limits or their lifting. An additional safety option on offer from the tech developments is the exit warning system which warns occupants when exiting the vehicle, so they don’t open the doors on any cars or bicycles approaching from behind.
Park Assist Pro is also available on the T-Roc for the first time and makes parking a breeze. Using its memory function, fully automatic parking can be undertaken over distances of up to 50 metres and the ingenious system even enables the process to be controlled remotely using a mobile phone – ideal for regular parking in a garage or carport.
Pricing and UK specifications for the second-generation T-Roc were expected to be announced as this issue of the magazine was going to print. Launch models were expected to consist of two 48V mild hybrid drive models (1.5 eTSI) with 85 kW (116 PS) and 110 kW (150 PS) with the most powerful variant, the T-Roc R, amongst the additional choices to follow the first wave.
