Ramsey to leave Cardiff City as club still in talks with Ralls

Cardiff City have confirmed their retained list for the 2024/25 season, with club legend Aaron Ramsey set to leave the club.
Ramsey is widely reported to be joining Mexican side Club Universidad Nacional – known as Pumas UNAM – and was ruled out as a managerial candidate for the Welsh club last week.
The club’s statement confirming Ramsey’s departure said that the midfielder leaves with Cardiff’s ‘best wishes.’
“The Welsh captain rejoined his childhood Club during the summer of 2023, before taking up the role of caretaker manager for the final three games of the 2024/25 campaign.
“Aaron departs Cardiff City Stadium with our best wishes.”
Ramsey played as a schoolboy for Cardiff City, where he spent eight years in youth football, became the club’s youngest ever first team player, and made 28 appearances (including loan spell) for the senior team – including the 2008 FA Cup final.
He played 23 times for Cardiff upon his return, scoring three times, but had battled injury issues throughout his two-year spell.
As well as Ramsey, Cardiff have confirmed the departures of Jamilu Collins, Raheem Conte, Anwar El Ghazi, Kieron Evans, Dimitrios Goutas and Yakou Méïté, with all players due to officially leave on June 30th.
The club have also said that they are in ‘discussions’ with Joe Ralls and Andy Rinomhota over new contracts.
Ralls has played for Cardiff since 2011, making 409 for the Bluebirds, and captaining the side since 2022. 28-year-old Rinomhota signed for Cardiff in 2022 and appeared 34 times for the club in all competitions last season.
