Ospreys confirm Jac Morgan and Dewi Lake departures to Gloucester

The Ospreys have confirmed the departures of Wales captain and vice-captain Jac Morgan and Dewi Lake to English Premiership side Gloucester.
Both Morgan and Lake were due to be out of contract at Ospreys at the end of the season, with the current uncertainty around the future of the Welsh regional game stalling negotiations.
Morgan, who made his Wales debut in 2022, has 24 international caps and was the only Welsh member of the victorious British & Irish Lions tour of Australia earlier this year.
Lake took on the captaincy for Wales’ summer tour of Japan and will likely continue in the role after Morgan sustained a shoulder injury that could rule him out of the entire 2026 Six Nations.
“This was an extremely difficult decision for me to make, but I hope our supporters can understand the reasoning behind me wanting to pursue a new challenge,” Morgan said on the Ospreys website.
“The Ospreys is a club that will always hold a special place in my heart, there are some incredible people here that have played an important part in getting me to where I am now, and I will never forget that.
“I am looking forward to the new challenge ahead, but until then I will be working hard to get back to full fitness and giving 100% for the team until the end of the season.”
Paying tribute to his captain, head coach Mark Jones said:
“I think I speak for everyone at the club when I say Jac will be sorely missed. He is a tremendous player and leader that always gives his all when he is on the pitch.
“As a club, we have always done our upmost to keep our most talented players, and that certainly was the case with Jac. Unfortunately, these matters are sometimes taken out of your hands, especially under the current circumstances in Welsh rugby.
“We respect his decision and wish him nothing but the best for the future, he will always be welcome back at the Ospreys.”
Speaking on his future move, Lake said: “The Ospreys is a club that means a lot to me on so many different levels so making the decision to move was something that I spent a lot of time thinking over.
“My whole career to this point has been with this team and there have been so many special moments on the way. Coming through the pathway, making my debut, the first time I captained the side and the friendships I’ve forged with players and staff, will all live long in my memory for the rest of my life.
“There’s a still a lot of rugby to be played this season, and whilst I’m looking forward to testing myself in a new environment, myself and the rest of the squad are fully focused on achieving something special this season.”
“I’m delighted to sign for Gloucester Rugby ahead of the 2026-27 season,” Lake told Gloucester’s website.
“It’s a great club with brilliant supporters. I know a lot of players at Gloucester who speak highly of the environment and I’m excited for the future.
“I’m also looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Gallagher Prem.”
