Michael Klinger to take Welsh Fire coaching and recruitment role

Michael Klinger has joined Welsh Fire in a dual role, taking charge of coaching the women’s team and overseeing recruitment.
Klinger signs a two-year contract at the Fire, transferring over from another team in The Hundred, Manchester Originals.
Gareth Breese, coach of Welsh Fire women for the 2025 season, will stay on as assistant to Klinger, while the latter will work closely with General Manager Mark Wallace on recruitment.
Mike Hussey will stay on as head coach of Welsh Fire men.
The appointment is the first sign of the new owners – who also own Major League Cricket (MLC) side Washington Freedom – are changing things at Sophia Gardens.
Klinger is director of cricket at the Freedom, having joined them in 2022.
“I’m thrilled to be taking on an expanded role with Welsh Fire, leading list management for both the men’s and women’s teams, alongside being head coach of the women’s side,” said Klinger.
“I’d like to thank Manchester Originals for the opportunity to work with them last year. It was a fantastic and rewarding experience for which I’m very grateful.
“This new role allows me to combine coaching with a broader strategic focus and to continue strengthening my connections with the Washington Freedom organisation, as well as with the current management and coaches at Welsh Fire.”
