Mason Crane spins Middlesex into a muddle to secure first Glamorgan T20 win

Glamorgan secured a comprehensive victory over Middlesex on Sunday to start their T20 Blast campaign in style at Merchant Taylor’s School on Sunday afternoon.

The home side started well, with Stevie Eskinazi and big name overseas signing Kane Williamson putting on a partnership of 45 for the first wicket.

The introduction of Crane – who broke the opening stand with Eskinazi caught by Will Smale –  by white-ball skipper Kiran Carlson inspired a remarkable collapse.

Middlesex who have now not won a home T20 Blast fixture in almost three years, fell from 45-0 to 124-9, with Crane picking up figures of 4-28 for Glamorgan.

That Williamson top-scored with 25 was a demonstration of the team’s struggles. Alongside Crane, Dan Douthwaite’s figures of 2-18 from four overs stood out, with the rest of the bowling group chipping in.

In reply, Glamorgan wobbled themselves, reaching 64-5 before Asa Tribe and Douthwaite came together to put on a blistering stand of 64 runs in 38 balls to see Glammy home with more than four overs to spare.

Despite playing one game less than most of the T20 Blast South Group, Glamorgan’s strong victory sees them sit in fourth spot with a healthy net run rate already.
