Luca O’Saul is on the fast track to the very top of elite sport.
The rising star only turned 14 in April and is already an academy player for the Wales Basketball team.
Set to represent his country at the Home Nations in Scotland this month, O’Saul surely has a bright future in front of him.
Already standing at 5’10”, O’Saul has a lengthy list of achievements.
In February and April this year, the boy from Vale Vipers was part of the championship winning team at the prestigious UK50 tournaments.
By making it into the UK50, it marks O’Saul as one of the top 50 up-and-coming players in the United Kingdom, and one of the top 5 in Wales.
With local side Vale Vipers, O’Saul led his side to victory in the National League and is looking forward to competing in the Premiership later this year.
By winning the National League, O’Saul went on to win the Terry Price Cup – a long-celebrated tournament that showcases top-level domestic talent, traditionally featuring league champions from the South Wales Basketball Association (SWBA) and the North Wales Basketball Association (NWBA).
With the vast majority of basketball centred in the United States, O’Saul and his family have already started to build connections across the pond.
Last summer, he stood out at the NBC basketball camp, earning a spot on the all-star team and winning the Championship. He is also a two-time Junior NBA MVP (most valuable player) award winner.
His ambition is to get a highly competitive basketball scholarship to America after completing secondary school in Wales. His family are already in conversations with representatives of the Next College Student Athlete (NCSA), an organisation that specialises in connecting talented players with American college coaches.
With such high prospects, be sure to follow Luca’s achievements over the next few years as he takes his next steps on what is sure to be a long and successful sporting journey!
