Llantrisant wrapped up a triumphant season by securing a league and cup double as they defeated Penygraig 44-5 at Abercynon RFC to retain the Worthington’s Mid District Division Three Cup.

Both sides had enjoyed a narrow win in the other’s own backyard in Division Three East Central earlier in the season, but the third meeting between them was more one sided, with league champions Llantrisant in dominant mood.

The Black Army ran in six tries to run out convincing winners. Marcus Webb scored twice – just as he did in last season’s final win over Wattstown – with Regan Young, Rhys Wilding, Jack Bowen and Dan Hayman also on the scoresheet.

Morgan Raison added four conversions and two penalties.

Wattstown, meanwhile, also did the double as they put Ynysybwl to the sword 39-19 at Beddau’s Mount Pleasant Park to add the Mid District Division Two Cup to their Two East Central crown.

Full-back Ioan Rhys Thomas led the way with two tries, while flankers Owen Radcliffe and Mackenzie Williams, lock Garyn Davies, and centre Jordan Williams also crossed the whitewash. Matthew Lewis added the other nine points from the tee.

It also marked Mid District Cup success for the second time in three seasons for Wattstown, after winning the Division Three Cup in 2024.

Also celebrating their 50th year, Wattstown – after back-to-back league titles and promotions – can now look forward to Division One rugby for the first time in their history next season.

For Ynysybwl, it was Division Two Cup final defeat for the second successive season after going down to Caerphilly last year.

There was a dramatic finish at Pontypridd’s Sardis Road in the Mid District Division One Cup final where a last-gasp try from No 8 Euan Jones snatched glory for Nelson as they defeated Abercwmboi 34-27.

It was one of two tries in a man-of-the-match performance from Jones. Scrum-half Lewis Ryan, full-back Daf Bowen and centre Alec Jones were the other Nelson try scorers, while skipper and outside half Ciaran Davies sent over three conversions and a penalty.

For Nelson it was Mid District Cup redemption on the same ground where they lost to Cambrian Welfare in the Division One final two years ago.

There was also some redemption in the Mid District Division Four Cup final for Tylorstown who, after losing last year’s final to Ferndale, enjoyed the sweet taste of victory this time around as they saw off Deri 35-24 at Sardis Road.

Centre Jack Ould, hooker Callum Pritchard, back row forward Chris Lloyd, No 8 and captain Adam Phillips were the Tylorstown try scorers, with Ould also kicking three conversions and three penalties.

It was still a successful season for both clubs, with Deri promoted as champions of Division Four East, while Tylorstown have also secured promotion after finishing as runners-up in Division Four East Central.

Deri had been looking to make it a hat-trick of Mid District Cup triumphs after lifting the Division Five Cup in each of the previous two seasons.

This year’s Mid District Division Five Cup final went the way of Beddau Athletic who comfortably saw off Glyncoch 34-6 at Penygraig RFC.

Chris Bird, Scott Bishop, Luke Jones, Caelum Cox, Ethan Forkin and Jack Williams were the Beddau try scorers. Efan Jones added the extras to two of them.

The Mid District clubs in the Admiral WRU National Leagues all battle it out for a place in their divisional final based on their league results over the course of the season.

Treorchy were victorious 36-19 over Aberdare at Sardis Road in the Mid District Championship Cup final.

Hooker Rob Jones led the with two tries, while second row Owen Cox and man of the match winning prop Kamren Harris also scored for the Zebras, in addition to a penalty try.

Meanwhile the Mid District Premiership Cup final between Merthyr and Pontypridd, which had been due to be played at Sardis Road last Wednesday, will likely now be played in August, with a date to be confirmed.

The decision, taken in the interests of player welfare, came after discussions between both clubs and the Mid District Rugby Union.

Merthyr will host the Mid District Women’s Trophy final between Abercynon and Treorchy at The Wern next Sunday (31 May), kick-off 2.30pm.
