Lightning crush Edinburgh as Thunder fade against Clovers: Celtic Challenge round-up

Gwalia Lightning produced a fine performance on Saturday as they beat Edinburgh 43-7 in the Celtic Challenge, extending their winning run to four matches.
A day later, Brython Thunder battled hard away at Clovers, drawing at halftime, only to lose 29-12 in Cork.
Let’s get into the action!
Maisie Davies brace opens the game for Lightning victory
In a tight first half at Hive Stadium, prop Maisie Davies crossed twice for the visitors either side of an Edinburgh penalty try.
It was a totally one-sided contest after the break though as the Welsh outfit asserted control.
Tries from Bryonie King, Sian Jones, Catherine Richards and a double for Lily Terry ensured a comprehensive Lightning win.
They have won four of their five matches in the competition, while Edinburgh have tasted victory just once.
Davies’ fine form continues, scoring her third and fourth tries of the season. The loosehead prop will surely be a shoo-in for a starting birth in this year’s Six Nations if her performances for the Lightning continue to standout.
Thunder fade after battling first half
Clovers secured a 29-12 bonus-point win against Brython Thunder in Cork to register their third victory in a row in the Celtic Challenge.
After a tight first half, the scores were level at 12-12 at the break with the Thunder twice responding well to falling behind.
Jess Rogers’ scored a brilliant solo try for Brython, before a well-constructed maul saw the Welsh side go into the break level.
However, 17 unanswered points from Clovers after the turn ensured that Denis Fogarty’s side took the full five points from the encounter.
Brython, in contrast to the Lightning, are bottom of the Celtic Challenge and without a win. With three of their next four matches against the also struggling Scottish side, they need to pick up some wins if they are to qualify for the play-offs.
