Nick Kenny is set to partner Jonny Clayton at the World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt next month as Gerwyn Price has withdrawn.

Kenny will join two-time World Cup champion Jonny Clayton in the Welsh team as seventh seed. The announcement comes after Gerwyn Price made himself unavailable for selection.

Price and Clayton reached the final last year, losing out to the Northern Ireland pair of Daryl Gurney and Josh Rock.

The Welsh duo are the third most successful team in World Cup history, winning the competition twice in 2020 and 2023.

Only Adrian Lewis and Phil Taylor – four – and Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld – three – have won it more times than Price and Clayton.

This year, though, Price had to pull out. Both players are in good form, with Clayton second in the Premier League of Darts, and Price in third, with both expected to make the play-offs later this month.

Price has told his social media followers his absence from the upcoming World Cup is not down to health reasons.

On Thursday, 7 May, Price told Sky Sports: “Just health wise I’m not in a great place at the moment. I’m just battling on at the moment and searching for results and hopefully in the next few weeks that will come and put me at ease and I’ll be able to enjoy darts again.”

He has since posted on social media to say: “Just to clarify I have NOT withdrawn from the World Cup because of health reasons.”

Kenny will make his debut at the competition when he joins Clayton to represent Wales in Germany.
