Introducing: The All-New Volkswagen Tayron

Volkswagen is strengthening its SUV offering as it seeks to cement its position as the UK’s best-selling new car brand for a formidable fifth year running in 2025.

More than 166,000 new Volkswagen passenger cars were registered last year – impressive statistics that were boosted by the arrival of the all-new ID.7 and ID.7 Tourer, new Passat and new Tiguan, as well as the revised T-Cross and Golf.

With 41,000 more sales than the closest competitor in 2024, Volkswagen is continuing its new model momentum whilst aiming to retain a grip on top spot and leading this year’s offensive is what is now the second-largest SUV in the range.

Sophisticated and supremely spacious, the all-new Tayron sits between the mid-sized Tiguan, Volkswagen’s best-selling model worldwide, and the Touareg, the brand’s flagship large SUV.

And with its dynamic proportions, the newcomer seems certain to make its own presence felt amongst Welsh drivers when it goes on display in Sinclair Volkswagen showrooms in Newport, Cardiff, Bridgend, Port Talbot, Swansea and Neyland from March, with the first examples being delivered to customers shortly after.

As a well-thought-out all-rounder, the Tayron makes the perfect travelling companion and offers flexibility for the everyday as well as for those special adventures or family trips with five or optionally seven seats.

Either way, the new SUV is undeniably very accommodating – whether for seven people with a luggage compartment capacity of up to 850 litres (with the third row folded down) or as a five-seater with up to 705 litres of carrying capacity. And should you ever need the entire storage volume, there is always the option to fold down all seats to create a virtually flat luggage compartment floor.

The new Volkswagen’s pleasing practicality is complemented by its pulling power. The Tayron offers a useful towing capacity of 2,400 kg, with the combination of the standard Trailer Assist manoeuvring system in conjunction with the optional folding towing bracket, helping to make even large horse boxes and trailers easy to handle.

With its clear, striking SUV design and majestic stance, the Tayron cannot fail to catch the eye or, quite literally, light up the lives of owners.

Enhancing the unmistakeable light clusters front and back, the Tayron is the first Volkswagen ICE (internal combustion engine) model in the European market to feature illuminated logos at both ends of the vehicle.

What’s more, the optional IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights with Dynamic Light Assist main-beam control light up the road ahead, without dazzling other road users.

More than 19,000 individually controlled LEDs in each headlight help to improve visibility by projecting markings directly onto the roadway thus making it easier for drivers, for example, when travelling through narrow roadworks on the motorway to keep the vehicle in its lane.

In terms of equipment, the Tayron is generously specced and there are five trim levels for the UK market – Life, Match (eHybrid only), Elegance, R-Line and R-Line Edition (eHybrid only).

Standard features on each model include three-zone air conditioning, 10-colour background lighting, an infotainment system with 12.9-inch screen, and a multi-function driving experience switch for adjusting driving profiles, audio volume and cabin atmospheres using pre-programmed lighting and audio moods.

There is also a raft of standard assist systems onboard the Tayron ranging from Park Assist Plus and a rear-view camera to a new exit warning system, which prevents doors being opened if another road user approaches from behind.

Of course, there are plenty of optional extras for those wishing to heighten their Tayron ownership experience including the IDA voice assistant with ChatGPT integration as part of the Discover infotainment package, a tilting and sliding panoramic sunroof, a 700-Watt Harman-Kardon sound system, plus leather upholstery on electrically adjustable seats with massage and ventilation functions ensuring maximum comfort on every journey.

There is huge choice when it comes to engine type too. By mid-February, there will be six power units available – each paired with a six- or seven-speed automatic direct-shift gearbox (DSG), and 2.0 TSI variants combining 4MOTION all-wheel drive.

The enticing line-up includes two eHybrid versions which will open the door to electric-only driving for many motorists thanks to a range of up to 75 miles – making the Tayron ideal for those with an average commute for example.

Conveniently, this outstanding SUV can be charged with up to 11 kW AC and 40 kW DC, the latter enabling a charge top-up from 10 to 80 per cent in just 26 minutes.
