How Wales can finish above England in the final Six Nations table

Rhodri Evans

After England’s downturn in form over the last three rounds of the Six Nations, there is a real possibility that Wales could finish above their great rivals.

While Wales are winless, their performances throughout the campaign are improving, whereas England’s are rapidly deteriorating.

After beating Wales 48-7 on the first weekend, England have now lost three on the bounce against Scotland, Ireland, and Italy, leaving them fifth in the table.

Wales are five points behind England in the table, which means Steve Tandy’s men need a maximum points swing to leapfrog them.

Wales face Italy at the Principality Stadium this Saturday, while England travel to Paris to try and prevent France from becoming back-to-back Six Nations champions.

England, thanks to their thrashing of Wales in the first round, also have a massive points difference advantage, with Wales needing to beat Italy with a bonus point and hope for a 100 point swing.

It’s unlikely, but ending their three-year losing streak in the competition and handing England a first Wooden Spoon since 1987 would be a massive boost for Tandy in what has been an encouraging campaign.
