Team Wales have announced the 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball squad for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, marking a landmark moment in Welsh sporting history.

For the first time ever, Wales will be represented in basketball at a Commonwealth Games, with both the men’s and women’s 3×3 wheelchair basketball teams securing qualification for Glasgow 2026.

The selected athletes will become the first basketball players to wear the Team Wales jersey at a Commonwealth Games, creating a legacy for future generations.

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will see the fast-paced and exciting 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball competition return to the programme following its successful debut at Birmingham 2022.

“Today marks a truly historic moment for Team Wales,” Team Wales Chef de Mission Gethin Jones said.

“For the first time in our Commonwealth Games history, we will have basketball players representing Wales on the Commonwealth stage.

“Qualification alone is a remarkable achievement, but the opportunity for these athletes to compete in Glasgow and inspire the next generation makes this even more special.

“These players have worked incredibly hard to reach this point and have earned the right to stand alongside the very best athletes in the Commonwealth. Everyone involved in Team Wales is immensely proud of what they have achieved and excited to see them make history this summer.”

”To have both the Men’s and Women’s Teams selected is a phenomenal achievement, not just for the players but also for the Coaches, backroom staff and friends and families who have supported these athletes every step of the way,” added Nathan Stephens, Performance Manager at Disability Sport Wales (3 X3 Wheelchair Basketball Wales).

“Being selected means everything to the players – they are all an excellent representation for the sport of wheelchair basketball and to be now given the opportunity to represent Team Wales at the Commonwealth Games is something that many of them would never have dreamt of.

“This is very much a family and the passion, excitement and competitiveness our squads will show in training, in the changing rooms and on court is hopefully going to demonstrate to the world that Wales can compete at the highest level in wheelchair basketball and competing at the Games is only going to strengthen the development of the sport across Wales to showcase that once again we as a country can punch above its weight in parasports.”
