Glamorgan have announced the signing of New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham to replace the departing Fazalhaq Farooqi.
Farooqi has been recalled by the Afghanistan Cricket Board, ending his oversea stint after just a week.
The 25-year-old paceman had an electric start for Glamorgan in the T20 Blast, taking six wickets in his two games.
His 4-34 on debut against Northamptonshire Steelbacks was an excellent example of his skill and swing with the new ball, and death bowling abilities at the back end.
The Welsh county have moved quickly to replace Farooqi in their squad, with international Jimmy Neesham signing the same day as the Afghan pacers departure was confirmed.
Neesham is hugely experienced at franchise and international T20 level, and will be available for selection for the Somerset fixture on June 4th.
Glamorgan will be the 35-year-old’s seventh county, having previously lined up for Derbyshire, Kent, Durham, Essex, Leicestershire, and Northamptonshire.
He is familiar with Sophia Gardens, too, having played for Welsh Fire in 2021, the first edition of The Hundred.
Neesham has represented New Zealand in multiple ICC tournaments and has built a reputation as a high‑impact performer in pressure moments, including memorable contributions in the 2019 Cricket World Cup and across global franchise competitions.
“Jimmy is a fantastic addition to our Blast squad,” Glamorgan director of cricket Mark Wallace said.
“He’s a genuine three‑dimensional cricketer with the ability to change a game in a matter of balls, and his experience in high‑pressure environments will be invaluable for our group.
“We’re excited to welcome him back to Sophia Gardens, this time in Glamorgan colours, and look forward to seeing the impact he can make.”
