Glamorgan secured a pair of dominant victories over Worcestershire and Leicestershire to finish top of the Women’s T20 Blast League Two group stage.

After a late-over thriller at Leicester on Friday afternoon, the Welsh county chased 104 just two down at Sophia Gardens on Saturday to make it seven wins from eight in the group stages.

With just the defeat to Kent – who will compete with Gloucestershire in the eliminator with the winner playing Glamorgan in the final – Rachel Priest’s side have been excellent.

Glamorgan were defeated by nemeses Yorkshire at the semi-final stage last season, so have already gone one better this time around.

“It’s huge,” said head coach Priest.

“Obviously last season we made the semi-finals and we were disappointed not to get through to the final. To go one better this year is really special.

“There’s a bit of pressure on the girls obviously being at home and they’ll feel that, but we know it’s a really good achievement to make the final and we’ll put our best foot forward on the day.”

Against Leicestershire, Glamorgan took control of proceedings from the off, putting on122-5 in the first innings, with captain Lauren Parfitt hitting 41.

But they restricted the Foxes to 120-7 despite a valiant late effort from Sophie Grayson, who hit 26 not out off 12 balls.

On Sunday, Parfitt again starred with the bat, stroking  a superb 72 off 40 balls as the target of 104 was chased in just 12.3 overs.

“Going into a final, we just don’t know what’s going to happen, anything can happen on the day,” said former New Zealand International Priest.

“It was a really good performance against Worcestershire, a really clinical performance for us to have before the final. We’re just really pleased to be there and we’ll see what happens.”

If Kent do progress, Glamorgan will welcome the opportunity to avenge their only defeat.

“They played really well that day. All the teams have really improved and that’s really positive for the competition,” added Priest.

“If we play Kent again, we’ll definitely be looking to go one better against them this season.”

Glamorgan, having topped the group, will host the final on July 12th.

“To have it at home, there’s not many people that will get to do that,” said Parfitt. “We’re really looking forward to seeing a lot of people here supporting us.

“A home final, we’re really lucky to be in that position. It’ll be lovely to get as many people here next Sunday as we can.”
