Game Wales comes to Powys: A new chapter in Welsh gaming culture

The rolling hills of Powys are about to echo with the sounds of digital battles, tabletop strategy, and creative innovation as Game Wales prepares to launch its newest regional edition: Game Powys.

Spearheaded by John Jackson, CEO of ESPORTS WALES, and developed in collaboration with local leaders like Lisa Horne and Matt Rising, the event promises to be a landmark celebration of gaming culture in Mid Wales.

A Vision for Community and Creativity

Game Powys is part of the broader Game Wales initiative, which aims to position Wales as a global destination for gaming and esports. The Powys edition will bring together esports tournaments, tabletop gaming zones, and educational workshops – all under one roof in the Media Resource Centre.

The event is designed to be inclusive and community-driven, with activities tailored for young people, families, and industry professionals alike. Plans include:

  • Esports tournaments for younger players
  • Internet safety talks and ALN-friendly remote participation
  • Live panels on gaming culture and careers
  • Board games
  • College-led esports information, including myth-busting sessions on gaming careers
  • Local booths featuring Welsh developers like Wales Interactive

Local Collaboration and Support

Game Powys is being organised in partnership with Powys County Council, Creative Wales, Ygam, and other community stakeholders. The planning team has been actively coordinating logistics, venue layouts, and funding opportunities.

The event will take place on the 25th of October 2025. Organisers are working to ensure accessibility, safety, and a welcoming atmosphere for all attendees.

A Broader Movement

Game Powys joins other regional efforts like Game Caerphilly, all feeding into the flagship Game Wales event. The initiative reflects a growing recognition of gaming as a cultural and economic force in Wales, with Gweirydd Davies of Esports Wales recently speaking at the National Eisteddfod and BAFTA Cymru panel about the sector’s potential.
