Fortis: A New Frontier In Sports Management

An innovative new sports management and consultancy firm has been launched with the creation of Fortis Sports Group (FSG).

This has been aided by the strategic acquisition of Win Sports Management and the establishing of Fortis Rugby, a specialised division dedicated to supporting and advancing elite rugby players.

FSG offers a comprehensive range of services tailored to meet the unique needs of athletes, teams, and brands in today’s competitive sports landscape.

“We are thrilled to launch Fortis Sports Group and with the acquisition of Win Sports Management,” said Ian Bird, Fortis Sports Group managing director.

“We are taking a major step in fulfilling our mission to provide athletes with unparalleled support and opportunities.

“Our goal is to set a new standard in athlete management, ensuring our clients’ success and well-being, on and off the field.”

Win Sports Acquisition

The acquisition of Win Sports Management, a respected firm known for its athlete-led approach and successful track record for more than 20 years, enhances the portfolio of Fortis Sports Group and strengthens its position within the sports management industry.

This move brings experienced talent, established client relationships and an expanded network, ensuring Fortis is equipped to deliver industry leading support across multiple sports.

“All of us at Win Sports are delighted to be a part of the formation of Fortis Rugby,” said Derwyn Jones, Win Sports Management.

“These are exciting times in the sports management industry, and I believe the creation of Fortis is a game changer for our clients and staff.

“Win Sports have always been a client-led agency and have managed some of the highest profile players in the rugby world.

“Those values are mirrored by Fortis, and between us, I feel we can go on to meet the unique needs of our athletes in giving them the guidance and support they deserve.

“That is from the minute they enter into their first contract, through to that uncertain time they start planning what lies ahead beyond the world of professional rugby.”

Fortis Rugby

The Fortis Rugby division will focus on rugby talent representation, providing players with contract negotiations, brand partnerships, media and PR and career development support tailored specifically to the demands of the specific sport.

It will aim to champion rugby, helping players build their careers, increase visibility and maximise their impact.

“Fortis Rugby represents our dedication to nurturing talent in all sports and recognising the unique needs of each athlete,” said Bird.

“We are excited to make a positive impact in the rugby world and carry on the excellent work already done over many years by Win Sports and their directors.

“The aim is to provide players with the resources and support they need to thrive in their careers and beyond.”

Former Wales and British & Irish Lions captain Sam Warburton has been with Win Sports Management for a number of years and can speak to the quality of service that FSG provides.

“The support from Derwyn and the team over the years has been invaluable and has helped me achieve all of my dreams, both on and off the field,” Warburton says.

“Now as a part of Fortis, I’m sure they will continue to deliver for all of their players as part of this exciting new venture!”

Range of Different Services

Fortis offers a number of different services to clients, ranging from contract negotiations to legal support, as well as brand partnerships, media, and PR.

The expert team at FSG ensures athletes secure the best possible terms in their contracts, advocating for their value and future.

Fortis prioritises negotiation with transparency, integrity, and a focus on protecting each client’s financial and professional interests, providing them peace of mind and security as they progress in their careers.

FSG also helps athletes unlock their full potential beyond the field by connecting them with reputable brands that align with their personal values and image.

From securing sponsorships to developing endorsement deals, the team facilitates partnerships that enhance athletes’ profiles and create long-term value.

Brand partnerships go hand in hand with athletes’ personal brands, and Fortis has dedicated media and PR specialists work closely with clients to build and manage their public image, crafting narratives that reflect their true selves. From handling media relations to creating strategic communications, we amplify each athlete’s voice and keep their brand in the spotlight.

Navigating the legal complexities of a sports career can be challenging. Fortis’s legal experts provide comprehensive support, from reviewing contracts to advising on regulatory matters, ensuring that our clients are protected and positioned for success both on and off the field.

‘Fortis Sports Management is more than just representation’

Former Wales international footballer Joe Ledley has recently transitioned his career away from football and into agency, recently joining FSG and providing important consultancy and mentorship for younger players.

“Fortis Sports Management is more than just representation, they genuinely care about your career and your future,” says the former Cardiff City and Celtic midfielder.

“They provide unmatched expertise, personal attention, and a commitment to maximising your potential on and off the field. For any athlete looking for the best, Fortis is the place to be.”

With a commitment to integrity, innovation, and excellence, Fortis Sports Group is positioned to become a trusted leader in sports management, empowering athletes to achieve long-lasting success.

The company’s holistic approach signifies a powerful new direction in the sports management industry.

With further acquisitions and targets already identified, it is FSG’s intention to produce a fast-track growth structure to their plans and develop other arms of the business within football, rugby, golf and cricket in the near future.
