Bowler Ross Owen kick started Team Wales’ 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign with a dominant victory in the men’s singles against Pakistan.

Owen beat Mohammed Ayub Qureshi by two set to nil, taking each by scores of 12-5 and 17-0.

The 32-year-old from Merthyr Tydfil is competing at his third Commonwealth Games, and won a bronze medal in the men’s triples in Birmingham last Games.

“Thankfully I settled in quite well and made a good start,” said Owen.

“Hopefully there are good things to come from Team Wales from now on.”

Owen will next be in action against England’s Sam Tolchard on Friday afternoon.

The bowlers were the first Welsh competitors in action in Glasgow as they compete on Thursday before the evening’s opening ceremony at the Hydro.

Amy Williams and Lauren Gowen are next up to compete in the women’s pairs against Canada on Thursday afternoon.
