Eight Golfers, Eight Counties, 24 Hours: £36,000 Raised for Prostate Cymru in Epic Golfing Challenge

On Thursday, June 19th, eight determined golfers embarked on an extraordinary mission called ‘The 24-Hour Channel Golf Challenge’.

Their goal was to conquer eight golf courses across eight counties in just one day, playing nine holes at each, all in support of Prostate Cymru.

The team began their challenge at 4:30am, teeing off at China Fleet Golf Club in Cornwall as the sun began to rise. From there, they made their way from course to course across the region, finally sinking their last putt around 10:30pm at the renowned Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club.

Their epic journey was made possible thanks to the generous support of event sponsors Chillimint, Harris & Birt, and Sinclair Garages, with Dan Hendrikson on hand to capture the entire day on film.

For two of the challengers, Ian Booth and Andy Thomas, this was far more than just a golfing feat. It was personal.

Andy, a retired Consultant Urologist, co-founded Prostate Cymru alongside the late Ray Murray to drive research, innovation, and access to life-saving equipment in Wales.

Ian’s connection to the cause began during his tenure as Centenary Club Captain at Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club.

A routine GP visit led to a PSA test, which revealed a prostate cancer diagnosis, completely unexpected, as Ian was symptom-free and only 57 at the time.

Motivated by Ian’s experience and united in their commitment to change the future of prostate health in Wales, the duo rallied the team for this ambitious challenge.

The team raised a staggering £36,000 and counting through this grueling challenge.

Tina Tew, Chief Executive of Prostate Cymru, praised the achievement:

“What Ian, Andy, and the team have accomplished is nothing short of incredible.

“Not only have they raised a phenomenal amount of money, but they’ve also helped start vital conversations around prostate health. We’re immensely grateful for their passion and dedication.”

Every hole played, every mile travelled, and every swing taken was a powerful step toward early detection, awareness, and support for men facing prostate health issues across Wales.

The generosity and encouragement from the golfing community have been nothing short of inspirational.
