Glamorgan head coach Richard Dawson has said that he and the club are keen to extend overseas bowler Ryan Hadley’s stay at Sophia Gardens.

Dawson confirmed that the county have opened discussions with the Australian seamer with the aim of keeping him on for the next two County Championship games.

Hadley initially signed to only play for Glamorgan in the first block of fixtures, where he has taken 21 wickets in six games, at an average of 26.48.

With an upcoming block of T20 fixtures punctuated by two red-ball games, Dawson has said that he would like the 27-year-old to be available for the fixtures away to Sussex on 12 June and home to Surrey on 19 June.

“He (Hadley) might not be going home, we’re in discussions for those middle two games,” said Dawson.

“He’s a good bloke, fits in really well in the changing room, good sense of humour and he certainly tries – he puts in on the pitch. He’s bowled some really good spells which has influenced games as well.

“He’s a good point of difference in our bowling attack. He’s obviously tall, hits the deck, he’s got a yard about him as well. So it’s nice to have that change of attack, so he complements our bowling attack really nicely.”

Despite his promising start with the bowl, Hadley’s best moment for Glamorgan so far was his match-winning 50* against Somerset, where he, in partnership with Sean Dickson, helped chase down 285 to win by two wickets.

“I was just hoping to chip away at a few to help the boys,” Hadley said after the victory.

“I played and missed a few, luckily not good enough to nick it and [Dickson] started really well.

“I was telling the boys I hadn’t been dismissed since coming here, as a joke, so was saying earlier it’s inevitable they’re going to get me for the first time, but I’m still here – it’s a miracle.”

Asked if there was scope for Hadley to remain even longer than the next two Championship games, Dawson added: “Obviously he needs to be back in Australia at some point so I don’t know about that yet.”
