After a dramatic seven months in charge which included football league survival on the final day of the season, Christian Fuchs departs from Newport County as manager.

The former premier league winner replaced David Hughes last November and did just enough to keep Newport County in the football league by the end of the season.

Newport will continue their rebuild without Fuchs after having lost several players so far this transfer window including key figures like Matt Baker and Bobby Kamwa.

The Exiles have brought in six new players so far in the transfer window as they look to make up for their departures and will be now adding a manager to their list of desired signings.

Fuchs’ resignation comes at an uncertain time for Newport as they get their pre-season underway this week in preparation for a Carabao Cup fixture at AFC Wimbledon on the weekend of August 8^th before beginning their League Two campaign against Rochdale a week later.

Following a new managerial appointment, this would be County’s fourth manager in over two years.

In a statement, the club said: “Newport County can confirm Christian Fuchs has made the decision to step away from his role as manager.

“Everyone at Newport County would like to thank Christian for his hard work, commitment and professionalism, and wish him every success for the future.
