The UK’s best BMX racers will arrive in Cardiff for one of the biggest weekends in the British BMX calendar as the National BMX Race Series arrives in Wales for Rounds 7 and 8, alongside the prestigious British Cycling National BMX Championships.

From 3–5 July, the National BMX Centre Wales in Rumney will welcome around 1,000 riders from across Great Britain.

It is the first British BMX National event to be staged in Wales for almost two decades.

Hosted by Cardiff BMX Racing Club, this landmark event will see riders from all three Welsh BMX clubs – Cardiff BMX Club, Llynfi BMX Club and Dragon Riders BMX Club – line up alongside the nation’s best, showcasing Welsh talent on home soil.

On Friday 3 July, running from 6pm–8pm, the British Cycling National BMX Championships take centre stage.

The championships are a standalone, winner-takes-all event where the country’s elite BMX athletes compete for the coveted title of National Champion.

Around 80 of Britain’s top riders across the Elite, Under-23 and Junior categories will line up on the gate, launching from the impressive 8-metre start hill in pursuit of glory.

Unlike the National Series, the National Championships are decided in a single event.

National Champions earn the right to wear the iconic National Champion’s jersey, or official champion’s sleeve stripes, in competition for the following year, making Friday night’s racing one of the most anticipated events of the BMX calendar.

“Since the opening of the track, the club has gone from strength to strength and we have ambitious plans for the future,” Hugh Copping, Chairman of Cardiff BMX Club, said.

“Welsh BMX clubs will have approximately 40 riders competing on Welsh soil, an unprecedented number that highlights the sports remarkable growth in recent years.

“We are fortunate to have a world class facility here in Wales, and we are committed to promoting it both nationally and internationally.

“This event provides the first real opportunity to showcase what can be achieved here in Wales and to demonstrate the quality of the venue, the strength of our BMX community and the exciting future of the sport.”

Following Friday’s Championship racing, attention turns to the National BMX Race Series, with valuable championship points up for grabs across Saturday and Sunday.

The Cardiff section represents Rounds 7 and 8 of the 2026 series, following visits to Manchester, Glasgow and Gosport earlier in the season.
