Cardiff Devils have announced the signing of forward Thomas Caron from HPK of Liiga ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The Canadian forward joins the Devils from HPK, who play in the top league in Finland, where he finished last season after starting the year with Allen in the ECHL.

Caron’s is 6’3” and can play both wings but his speed is what allowed him to play in Finland, one of Europe’s fastest leagues.

He is a former teammate of current Devils defenceman Jimmy Oligny who played with him in the AHL when they were both with the Manitoba Moose.

This will be Caron’s first full season in Europe after splitting the previous 2 years between the ECHL and Finland.

Two seasons ago, he showed what he can do offensively when given the opportunity, putting up 26 points in 31 games (eight goals, 18 assists) with the Idaho Steelheads, which got him noticed by HPK.  He bagged five goals in 15 games with HPK in the second half of that season.

“Thomas, although new to Cardiff, has experience in Europe in the Finnish Liiga,” head coach Paul Thompson said.

“His strong skating and size are a key for us, and he will be put in a more prominent offensive role here than he was in Finland.

“We look forward to having him here in August, as he will no doubt improve our team.”
