Glamorgan captain Kiran Carlson hailed his extraordinary 42-ball hundred as ‘really special’ after guiding his side to a first win of the T20 Blast campaign.

It was Carlson’s second T20 hundred, and came two years after his first – a knock of 135 against Friday night’s opponents Somerset.

His ton saw Glamorgan chase the West Country’s score of 171 in just 13.5 overs, ably supported by Will Smale and former Somerset man Sean Dickson.

“It felt like deja vu – it was really cool against one of our closest rivals, Friday night, big crowd. It was really special,” Carlson said.

The captain’s innings came at the right time for Glamorgan, who had bean narrowly defeated in their first two Blast games against Gloucestershire and Northamptonshire on the first weekend.

“I nicked my first 30 runs over third man, but from there managed to find the middle a bit, rode my luck and it was good fun,” reflected Carlson.

“It’s really good fun batting together with Smaley [Will Smale] once we get going – we were having a good time.”

Carlson’s second hundred sees him go one behind injured overseas Colin Ingram in the list of players to have scored more than one Glamorgan T20 hundred.

His 42-ball effort is also the second fastest by a Glammy player, only beaten by Chris Cooke’s 38-ball epic.

Despite losing Afghan overseas Fazalhaq Farooqi to international duty early, Aussie fast bowler stepped into his shoes superbly, taking 4-fer and pegging back a strong Somerset batting line-up.

“It’s always nice to have a good performance early in the tournament coming into a new team, it just lets you take a breath and settle, but it’s just about trying to play my role for the team,” said McAndrew.

“To be able to put in a performance like that after losing off the last ball twice, shows where we’re at as a squad, so I’m really proud of the lads.”

“It’s a long competition, loads of games [nine] to go, and hopefully we’ll be in the mix come the back end,” Carlson added.

“It’s going to be a very tough game down at Somerset because they’re a quality team, they don’t lose many games down there and they’ll be really keen to beat us.

“Tough games coming up, but that’s the nature of the competition.”
