Billy Root extends Glamorgan tenure for 2026 season

Glamorgan batter Billy Root has extended his stay at the Welsh county, keeping him at Sophia Gardens until the end of the 2026 season.

The 33-year-old batter has been a key part of Glamorgan’s white ball success in recent seasons, winning the One-Day Cup in 2021 and 2024.

Root fell out of favour in the County Championship side last year, as new head coach Richard Dawson opted to bring through younger batters like Asa Tribe, Ben Kellaway, and Zain-ul-Hassan.

Brother of England legend Joe, Billy Root has played 67 first-class matches for Glamorgan, with 44 List A appearances too.

“Billy offers a huge amount to us on and off the field and has been a big part of the club since making Wales his home back in 2019,” Glamorgan director of cricket Mark Wallace said.

“We’re delighted that he’s extended his stay with us for another year.”

Glamorgan will play in the top flight of the County Championship for the first time in 21 years in 2026.
