Barry-Murphy bats away Strasbourg links: ‘I love Cardiff’

Calum Chambers’ stunning strike saw Cardiff City beat Wigan Athletic 1-0 on Sunday as manager Brian Barry-Murphy played down links to the Strasbourg job.
Former Arsenal centre-back Chambers put the dominant hosts in front midway through the first half with a curling effort from 25 yards.
Cardiff had more than 80% possession against opponents who defended so resolutely and single-mindedly that they barely ventured beyond the halfway line.
After the game, Barry-Murphy – who joined the Bluebirds in the summer of 2025 and has lead them to the top of League One into the New Year – was asked about recent links to the soon-to-be vacant managerial position at Strasbourg in France.
According to reports in France, Barry-Murphy is one of the people Strasbourg are considering as a successor should their current boss Liam Rosenior take over at Chelsea.
By recent reporting, Rosenior is set to be named the Chelsea head coach this week, with Barry-Murphy lined up as one of the shortlist to replace the former Hull City boss.
Asked what he made of the reports linking him to the Ligue 1 club, Barry-Murphy said: “I don’t know. I love Cardiff.
“I love being at Cardiff, I love it. I feel very lucky to be here.”
Former Manchester City Under-21s boss Barry-Murphy chose to focus on Cardiff matters after the game, rather than reported interest from France.
“I didn’t really know about it [the speculation], that’s for sure,” he added.
“I think we can improve a lot, and the players are also very excited. To win three and draw one of our four games in this 10-day period is something that I’m very grateful for.
“We just focus on ourselves and try to keep improving all the time. I’m so pleased with the players and how they are doing that. I feel very lucky to be with them.”
