All change for Wales squad ahead of Fishlock’s farewell friendlies

Rhodri Evans
Rhian Wilkinson has called up seven uncapped players for October’s friendly matches against Australia and Poland – the first Wales matches since the summer’s European Championships.
The Australia match at the Cardiff City Stadium will be the 166th and last appearance for the legendary Jess Fishlock in a Wales shirt.
Fishlock is retiring after almost 20 years as a Wales international, and leaves the game as Cymru’s most capped international player and record goal scorer, with 165 caps and 48 goals.
Remarkably, she has played in 67% of the matches in the history of Wales women’s national team and will leave a remarkable legacy behind her.
Joining Fishlock in the squad are three first time call-ups: Mia Ross, Annie Wilding, and Teagan Scarlett, with further uncapped players Poppy Soper, Gwen Zimmerman, Amy Richardson, and Scarlett Hill also bidding to win their first caps.
Six players who featured at this summer’s EUROs miss out due to injury, with Josie Green, Ella Powell, Rhiannon Roberts, Lily Woodham, Rachel Rowe, and Esther Morgan all unavailable.
This gives the squad a distinctly transitional feel – apt for the first camp following a major tournament.
Wales face Australia – who welcome back world class striker Sam Kerr after over a year and a half out injured – for the first time in their history, while also facing Poland at Rodney Parade in a clash of the EURO 2024 first-timers.
Poland will be without their own star striker – Ewa Pajor – who suffered a knee injury for club side Barcelona last week.
