Ben Jones Celebrates Treble And Family Double

Welsh jockey Ben Jones will be chasing more winners this weekend after enjoying a memorable family success at Chepstow.

The 24-year-old rider from Carmarthen is riding at Sandown, Cheltenham and Doncaster across the weekend and is in top form.

Jones raced to a treble in Wednesday’s meeting at Chepstow on the same day his father Dai started his new job as clerk of the course.

The three victories came on House of Stories, Valens Bruyee and Lowry’s Bar to make it 26 wins for the season for Jones.

Dai, who was formerly clerk of the course at Ffos Las Racecourse, was taking charge of his first race meeting at his new location when he watched his son claim three winners, including two for Welsh trainer, Rebecca Curtis.

The victory in the maiden hurdle on the Curtis-trained House of Stories needed a steward’s inquiry, denying a shock win for the 100-1, Mad Mike.

Dai Jones said: “To start at Chepstow on the day Ben rode three winners just makes it unforgettable.

“Having Ben as a jockey is helpful as he makes sure he carries back to me when something is not right. I find out pretty quickly when things are not done to the jockeys’ liking.”

There was little time for family celebrations, however, as Ben was scheduled to race at Huntingdon on Thursday, where he had another winner on board; Sun Joy.
